Normally when the patient is getting the braces put on, he or she may feel a little bit of discomfort, but the procedure is really not painful. There will be some tenderness afterwards, which may last up to 3 days but usually over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers such as Tylenol, Motrin, and Aleve are very effective to alleviate this discomfort.
