Invisalign®An Overview

There are various types of orthodontic treatments available today to treat orthodontic concerns. Patients now have the option to get a straighter, better-looking smile with invisible braces. Adults can avoid the stigma of having metal braces while teens can avoid the embarrassment.

Clear braces have the ability to treat orthodontics concerns that you may have dealt with your entire life. Custom-designed clear aligners are comfortable and will not disrupt your professional or social life like traditional metal braces.

Dr. Mohammad Izadi is a certified Invisalign® provider for teens and adults who would rather straighten their teeth with invisible braces instead of metal braces. He offers comprehensive orthodontic analysis and exams to determine if Invisalign is the best course of action for you. Our Sparks, MD orthodontic office will utilize this type of clear aligners to treat:

Which is better: Invisalign or Braces?

There are many benefits of Invisalign over metal braces. You can remove your aligners to brush your teeth and floss as you normally would. With braces, once they go on, they remain in place for the length of the treatment which can last up to 5 years. Being able to remove them to brush your teeth also eliminates the risk of tooth enamel staining from permanently attached metal brackets.

You’ll be able to maintain a proper oral hygiene routine and never have to worry about food getting stuck in your braces! The other main benefit is the fact that they are clear. This makes them the more aesthetically pleasing way to straighten your teeth.

They are designed to sit snug against your teeth making them virtually unnoticeable. Invisible braces are made from smooth, soft plastic material that will not irritate the gums and soft tissues in the mouth like metal braces often do. Also, there is no risk of tooth enamel staining from permanently attached brackets.

Invisalign® What to Expect

After Dr. Izadi determines that Invisalign can fix your orthodontic concerns, he will then take 3-D images of your teeth and jaw with iTero scanning technology. This innovative technology allows Izadi Orthodontics to create a digital model of your mouth. This model allows the Invisalign Lab to create your clear aligners and also allows Dr. Izadi to show you what your future smile will look like! We will send these images to the Invisalign lab where they will fabricate your aligners.

Once ready, you will receive your first set of aligners that will begin to slowly reposition your teeth. The aligners are made of soft-hard clear plastic that is durable and transparent. They will need to be replaced with a new set about every two weeks to gradually shift your teeth and jaw into placement.

Your clear braces should be worn for 20-22 hours a day. This allows you to remove them to eat and continue a normal oral hygiene routine. The length of your treatment and the number of aligners you will require will depend on the severity of your dental concerns and your cosmetic goals. Most patients will complete treatment in 12 months.

Invisalign® FAQs

How much does Invisalign cost?

It is hard to say how much you will need to pay for your treatment. Since no two patients have the same mouth, teeth, and issues, estimating the cost without a consultation is impossible. The cost of Invisalign is similar to the cost of braces. Depending on your dental insurance plan, your treatment may be partially covered. You should contact your provider to learn more about your orthodontic benefits and see if Invisalign is part of those benefits.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Teens and adults who suffer from the listed orthodontic concerns qualify for Invisalign. It is not recommended that small children use them since their teeth are still growing. Also, using this type of treatment involves a certain level of maturity and discipline. Since they are removable, it would be very easy for a small child to lose them. In complex orthodontic cases, Invisalign is not recommended. Invisible aligners do not have the same force as braces and therefore cannot help a patient with severe issues. During your consultation at our Sparks, MD orthodontic office, Dr. Izadi will inform you if clear braces are an option for you or your teen.
