Your first visit to Timonium orthodontist

What To Expect at Your First Visit

When you visit Izadi Orthodontics, you can expect to be treated like an extended family. We treat all of our patients with respect and compassion. Our team will invite you and help you orient yourself in our office. Your initial exam will give you time to get to know Dr. Izadi on a one-on-one basis, and you will have to address your goals and discuss your concerns. Your orthodontic exam includes:

Review medical history

We’ll need to review your medical and dental history at your first orthodontist visit. This is an important step because it helps us understand your overall health and any past dental issues. We’ll ask about your medications, allergies, and any health problems that might affect your treatment. We also want to know about previous dental work or injuries to your mouth or jaw. Your medical and dental history helps us create the best treatment plan for you and ensures your safety during orthodontic care.

Comprehensive oral exam

At your first orthodontist visit, Dr. Izadi will do an oral exam. The exam includes a close-up look at your teeth, gums, and jaw. He will check how your teeth fit together when you bite and look for any problems with your jaw joint. He may also gently touch your teeth and gums to see how healthy they are. Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt! Our staff will capture some pictures of your smile to help us figure out the best way to straighten your teeth and give you a great smile.

Digital X-rays

Our staff will take digital X-rays of your teeth and jaw at your first orthodontist visit. These X-rays are like special pictures that show us what’s happening inside your mouth. They let us see your teeth roots, jaw bones, and any hidden teeth that haven’t come in yet. Digital X-rays help us spot problems we can’t see just by looking at your mouth. They are quick, safe, and use less radiation than old-style X-rays. They’re vital to creating your orthodontic treatment plan to deliver a healthy, beautiful smile.

Customized treatment planning

During your first visit, Dr. Izadi will create a custom treatment plan for you. He will assess all the information he gathered – your medical history, oral exam results, and X-rays. Then, he will explain your options, like braces or clear aligners. He will also let you know how long treatment might take. Our staff will review your dental insurance and payment options. They will also discuss how to care for your teeth during treatment and what results you can expect. Our goal is to make a plan that fits your needs and gives you the best smile possible.

Signs Your Child is Ready for an Orthodontic Consultation

Seeing an orthodontist early in life can help prevent more significant problems later and make treatment more manageable in the long run. While we suggest that your child come in for an orthodontic consultation by age 7, there are signs you should look for. If your child exhibits these sure signs, you should bring them in earlier. Ignoring them can cause many issues. The following signs can cause problems with how adult teeth grow in or alter how teeth and jaws develop.

  • Teeth are crowded or crooked
  • Large gaps between teeth
  • Losing baby teeth too early or too late
  • Trouble biting or chewing
  • Having a jaw that clicks or shifts
  • Mouth breathing past age 4
  • Thumb sucking past age 4
  • Top or bottom teeth stick out too much
